A Quiet House, Relatively Speaking

Dad C. flew out Saturday morning for California. He is going to be visiting friends and meeting up with Mom C.'s extended family to scatter the ashes of her brother, who died the same weekend we found out about her cancer. It was supposed to have been a trip they took together, so there is sadness and heaviness there. At the same time, however, there is always joy in seeing old friends and family from far away. He will be gone until Thursday.

Our housemate, Rachel, decided on a whim last night to go to Washington to visit her family. Her younger sister is scheduled to give birth any day, and that whole gang is anxious to meet Baby James. She left this morning, two kids and a hissy cat in tow. The kids will return with her; the cat will stay with her parents (somebody cue the Hallelujah Chorus). She will stay anywhere from a week to three weeks; she doesn't have a reason to pin down her return time.

So that leaves us, just the four of us (plus the four dogs), here alone most of the week. It does seem strange.
